EtherExtend
Global Crossing EtherExtend Access Services literally enable you to extend your Ethernet capabilities. Now customers can seamlessly operate Ethernet-based services over Wide Area Networks (WAN) like a single LAN (Local Area Network). With a 10, 100, or 1000 Mbps EtherExtend access port, customers will connect to the nearest Global Crossing Point of Presence (PoP) via the Ethernet network of any Local Exchange Carrier (LEC) or Competitive Access Provider (CAP) with whom Global Crossing has established a Network-to-Network Interconnection (NNI) agreement.
Global Crossing offers EtherExtend Flex Service to provide cost-effective and flexible Ethernet access to IP-based services. EtherExtend Flex lowers the cost of access and matches the access Level of Service to the application's needs. It uses local access vendors to provide the last-mile Ethernet connection. However, rather than forwarding traffic over a physical connection to Global Crossing, the traffic is forwarded via a logical connection as a Virtual Local Area Network over a physical Network to Network Interface.
The service is available in North America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region and will be available in more than 70 points of presence in these same regions, plus Latin America, by the end of 2009. EtherExtend Flex can be paired with Global Crossing IP VPN or Dedicated Internet Access/IP Transit services, whether managed or un-managed. The service also can support Collaboration, Voice over Internet Protocol and other applications that utilize these transport services.
EtherExtend Flex Versus Fixed
- EtherExtend Flex access service provides tremendous flexibility and value for Ethernet-enabled access service. Choose a single Level of Service (LoS) for each application from multiple options per site, subject to the capabilities of the LEC or CAP. For more information, please download the datasheet at the right.
- EtherExtend Fixed access service is also available to provide secure, dedicated connectivity. For the ultimate, choose the Protected option to ensure Continuity of Operations for your business.
Is EtherExtend Flex the Right Choice?
Each endpoint in a network can utilize either EtherExtend Fixed or Flex access service. Making the right choice depends on the unique requirements of each site in the network. Share the needs of the application with us and we'll identify the right access choice for each site -whether it's EtherExtend Fixed, Flex or another access service from our global portfolio. Global Crossing also provides Metro, Colocation and Remote Access services that may enable customers to connect directly to Global Crossing's transport network and bypass your LEC or CAP.
