Global Crossing Completes NORDUnet Southern Cross Connection

Copenhagen to Hamburg research network route prepares way for 40GB and 100GB capability on the Northernlight Fiber-optic Network

Naarden & Paris, 11 October 2007 -- Global Crossing (NASDAQ: GLBC), a leading global IP solutions provider, has announced that the Copenhagen - Hamburg route link it provides for NORDUnet, the Nordic Research Network Internet highway, is now fully operational. By completing NORDUnet's Southern Cross Connection, Global Crossing achieves a network milestone that enables 40GB and 100GB capacity on this route.

Global Crossing was awarded the €1.5 million contract by NORDUnet at the end of 2006. Under the agreement, the company will provide leased fiber and co-location services for five years for the Southern Cross Connection to Hamburg. The project implementation began in March 2007.

"NORDUnet chose Global Crossing because of our focus and ability to be flexible toward its requirements for this key extension to the network," said Anthony Christie, managing director for EMEA, Global Crossing. "NORDUnet has added this fiber-optic link to help it meet the needs of next generation services that may require speeds up to 100Gbps. We are delighted to be able to meet the extensive demands required for a successful implementation."
