Welcome to this edition of
Carrier
Connections for Q2, 2006.
Last year when Global
Crossing reviewed analyst data
predicating growth in IP traffic, we
aligned all departments including sales,
marketing, traffic and network
engineering, and product management to
plan and prepare for the growth of
traffic Global Crossing would transport
in 2006. Telegeography Research,
predicts international Internet traffic
will double approximately every two
years. To accommodate this level of
traffic growth, 9.3 to 10.4 Tbps of
international Internet bandwidth will be
needed by 2008. At Global Crossing we
are seeing unprecedented growth as IP
traffic surges on our network
worldwide. Global Crossing’s growth is
also occurring in IPVPN and 10G
wavelength services. Our feature story,
“Global
Crossing Enhances Network to Meet
Growing Customer Demand” provides an
overview of all the worldwide network
upgrades.
Along with the good news
of growth in volumes is the latest news
on price stability. Telegeography
Research just released their latest
“Bandwidth Pricing Report” on
Transoceanic Wholesale Prices.
According to the report, “Throughout
2005, trans-Atlantic capacity prices
have remained remarkably stable.” The
report goes on to say that “The
stability of trans-Atlantic lease prices
could lead to renewed interest in IRU
purchases.” Global Crossing has a
global, dedicated team focused on IRU
solutions to meet your infrastructure
needs. Please read the “Ask
the Solution Experts” article to
review why IRU’s or pre-paid leases may
be the right solution for you.
This year Global Crossing
anticipates an increased demand for
Ethernet Services. CIR, a market
research and consulting firm predicts
“the market for 10-Gbps ports on
telecommunications and data
communications equipment will grow from
$2.1 billion in 2006 to $4.8 billion by
2010.” Competitively priced Ethernet
services are emerging as the
interconnection of choice. Global
Crossing is seeing the increased
Ethernet demand as related to the market
moving towards an interface that can be
applied to many services and
high-bandwidth applications such as rich
media content and data storage. Not all
Ethernet Services are the same and
Global Crossing carrier class attributes
include scale, protection, and
guaranteed quality of service, TDM
support, and full service management.
Please review the
Product News section
for all the details regarding our full
suite of global Ethernet Services.
