Welcome from Ted Higase

Ted Higase
EVP Worldwide Carrier Services

Welcome to this edition of Carrier Connections for Q2, 2006.

Last year when Global Crossing reviewed analyst data predicating growth in IP traffic, we aligned all departments including sales, marketing, traffic and network engineering, and product management to plan and prepare for the growth of traffic Global Crossing would transport in 2006.   Telegeography Research, predicts international Internet traffic will double approximately every two years.  To accommodate this level of traffic growth, 9.3 to 10.4 Tbps of international Internet bandwidth will be needed by 2008.  At Global Crossing we are seeing unprecedented growth as IP traffic surges on our network worldwide.   Global Crossing’s growth is also occurring in IPVPN and 10G wavelength services.  Our feature story, “Global Crossing Enhances Network to Meet Growing Customer Demand” provides an overview of all the worldwide network upgrades.

Along with the good news of growth in volumes is the latest news on price stability.  Telegeography Research just released their latest “Bandwidth Pricing Report” on Transoceanic Wholesale Prices.  According to the report, “Throughout 2005, trans-Atlantic capacity prices have remained remarkably stable.”  The report goes on to say that “The stability of trans-Atlantic lease prices could lead to renewed interest in IRU purchases.”  Global Crossing has a global, dedicated team focused on IRU solutions to meet your infrastructure needs.  Please read the “Ask the Solution Experts” article to review why IRU’s or pre-paid leases may be the right solution for you.

This year Global Crossing anticipates an increased demand for Ethernet Services.  CIR, a market research and consulting firm predicts “the market for 10-Gbps ports on telecommunications and data communications equipment will grow from $2.1 billion in 2006 to $4.8 billion by 2010.”  Competitively priced Ethernet services are emerging as the interconnection of choice.   Global Crossing is seeing the increased Ethernet demand as related to the market moving towards an interface that can be applied to many services and high-bandwidth applications such as rich media content and data storage.  Not all Ethernet Services are the same and Global Crossing carrier class attributes include scale, protection, and guaranteed quality of service, TDM support, and full service management. Please review the Product News section for all the details regarding our full suite of global Ethernet Services.

Global Crossing jumps into May with several customer events being held in Washington DC at the GTM show.  The Intelsat Global Telecommunications Meeting is a high priority event for Global Crossing. With over 200 customer and vendor meetings already arranged, we are determined to make your requirements #1.

In conjunction with the meetings, please join Global Crossing senior executives at our customer reception being held at the Sequoia Restaurant, on May 8th.

Additionally, we’ll be hosting two other invitation-only events.  The first is an Executive Leadership Discussion on May 9th titled, “Industry Consolidation and the Future of Technology & Telecom” featuring Michael Powell, former Chairman of the FCC, Tony Lavender, Head of ICT Research at Ovum, and Ron Insana, CNBC Senior Analyst and Financial Expert.  On Wednesday May 10th our IRU Sales Team hosts a breakfast event.  James Watts, Global Crossing Vice President Global Transport and Infrastructure will unveil Global Crossing’s network build plans, capacity, dark fiber and IRU solutions for worldwide availability.

One of our top priorities this year is to continue to strive in building lasting relationships with each and every one of you.  We understand the need and value of establishing local presence around the globe in order to best serve your needs.  Global Crossing has sales presence in eighteen countries to facilitate our relationships:  Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Ireland, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Panama, United Kingdom, United States, Sweden, Spain and Venezuela.  We would like to say Gracias, Obrigado, Merci, kiittää te, Takker De, 谢谢你。, Ringraziarla,  ありがとう,  Vielen Dank, Dank u, tack själv, and thank you for your business and we look forward to a very successful partnership this year. See you at GTM!

As always, please share with us your thoughts and ideas by emailing your feedback to carrierconnections@globalcrossing.com

Sincerely,
