There are several key parts to that recipe: First, the company's core enterprise, carrier data and indirect channels segment – or our “invest and grow” business -- is pivotal, and we’ve seen positive growth here over the past two years. You’ve also already seen that we’re selectively pursuing inorganic activities (acquisitions) that will accelerate our organic business strategy to add scale and capabilities to our “invest and grow” business.
When you think about it, Global Crossing really hasn’t changed its strategy to evolve the capabilities and expand the reach of its global IP network. Our decision to acquire complementary businesses in strategic regions is the next natural step in our efforts to accomplish this and serve the needs of global enterprises – your needs. That’s the rationale behind our acquisitions of Fibernet in the UK and Impsat in Latin America. And the successful integration of those companies into Global Crossing is a top priority for the year.
One very straightforward and immediate perk from these acquisitions is we’ll be able to serve you more completely and quickly. Because there are no capital expenditures necessary and no prolonged development cycles necessary to deliver additional and enhanced capabilities to you, you reap the benefits of the buy v. build approach we took here.
We’re excited about the prospect of turning the capabilities of the Fibernet and Impsat product portfolios into real-time value for you. These acquisitions give us a unique opportunity to serve you faster and better through integrated global and in-region capabilities, in addition to expanding our network reach and portfolio capabilities.
Impsat officially became part of Global Crossing in May. The company’s capabilities instantly give you an enriched product set, including 15 data centers, which we can leverage to meet your needs. Impsat also has an extensive intercity network and 15 fiber optic metro networks. Clearly, Global Crossing has a tremendous opportunity to further help your business by taking a strong regional asset and globalizing it with our global network and service offerings.
We’ll also be launching new products and services for you. Impsat’s proven track record of cultivating customer relationships and providing a superior customer experience is a key expertise that complements Global Crossing’s culture and emphasis. With their help, we’ll bring to you Impsat’s value-added services, such as data center hosting and security capabilities, as well as local VoIP.
The acquisition of Fibernet in the UK, which was completed in October 2006, also has allowed us to get even closer to our customers there. Our network asset combined with those of Fibernet’s metro networks has put us in a very unique position to service the needs of the majority of UK business. Fibernet’s integration has gone extremely well, and, for the most part, has been completed well ahead of schedule.
Serving you more completely and quickly also is the impetus behind our recent decision to manage Global Crossing with a more regional emphasis – we want to move the decision-making authority closer to you. This means we now have regional leaders who are empowered to act even more quickly on your behalf, and to make the decisions that impact the delivery of services to you and the experience you have in doing business with us.
That’s one of the ways we intend to create a differentiated customer experience for you. We’re working on others and making progress. For instance, some of you are actively participating in workshops to help us define what “differentiated experience” means to you and our employees are fully engaged in initiatives to help improve your customer experience.
My leadership team and I team are looking forward to speaking with you more about how we can better serve you. Please let us know how we can do that.
Please continue to share with us your thoughts and ideas by emailing your feedback to IPInsight@globalcrossing.com
All the Best,
